Below are helpful tips for keeping both cats and dogs safe and at home this Independence Day.
Dogs:
  1. Be sure your dog has a visible and current ID tag on their collar and that they have current microchip information on file.
  2. Take a current photo of your dog, just in case.
  3. Make sure to give your dog plenty of exercise prior to any parties.
  4. If you have a cookout, be sure to keep playtime with your dog far away from the flames.
  5. Keep Fireworks, Sparklers, and Glow sticks far away from dogs.
  6. Keep dog treats on hand and ask guests to only feed your dog their designated treats.
  7. Leave your dog at home with a frozen stuffed treat during fireworks.
  8. If your dog is afraid of loud noises, leave some gentle music playing to cover the sounds.
Cats:
  1. Be sure your cat has a visible and current ID tag on their collar and that they have current microchip information on file.
  2. Keep a current photo of you cat handy, just in case.
  3. Give your cat some extra enrichment and play time before any guests come over for any type of celebration.
  4. Ask guests to keep an eye out for your cat to be sure they don’t get out by mistake.
  5. Keep Fireworks, Sparklers, and Glow sticks far away from cats.
  6. Put your cat in a safe escape-proof room during parties and fireworks. Make sure they have food, water, and a litter box accessible.
  7. If you cat is afraid of loud noises, leave some gentle music playing to cover the sounds.
