Each year, we at Humane Society for Greater Nashua hold our annual Walk for Whiskers, an event that helps us raise important funds to benefit our animals awaiting adoption. In 2020, there were 294 stray animals brought into the shelter as well as 179 owner-surrendered animals. We saved 253 animals from high-kill shelters in the south. We spay and neuter all of our adoptable animals in-house and microchip each adoptable cat and dog. We provide medical and behavioral assessments and care to the animals we bring in. In 2020, 58% of our income came from fundraising and contributions. This makes our fundraising efforts vital to providing the level of care we’ve become known for.
When you form a walk team, you take a crucial step in supporting the important work that goes into caring for these homeless pets. It is worth noting that it is not unusual for unexpected and significant expenses to arise. For example, this year, we rescued 25 rabbits from a hoarding situation. In instances of hoarding, there are typically many animals, most (or all) of which who have not received appropriate nutrition or medical care and getting them in adoptable condition can get quite costly.
This is why we are so grateful for those who pledge so generously to the Walk For Whiskers Event and why it means a lot to us to be able to celebrate your results!
You will have your choice of a 3K and 5K route. Once walkers return to the ‘Walk Village’ lunch will be ready and waiting for those who have raised at least $200 per adult or $100 per child in walk pledges. All walk pledges go towards supporting the pets in our care as they wait to be adopted into their forever homes. We will support your fundraising efforts with helpful tips and prize incentives!
Thank you so much to everyone who has signed up. And if you haven’t yet, there is still time to register!
