Petco Foundation Invests Grant Money in Lifesaving Work at HSFN

The Humane Society for Greater Nashua (HSFN) is pleased to announce that they have been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to support its Abby Fund, which provides lifesaving medical care including extensive surgeries for shelter pets in need, as well as be a lead sponsor of the Humane Society’s signature fundraising events.

Half of the grant will help to replenish monies in HSFN’s Abby Fund—a donor designated fund that provides medical care and surgeries for ill and injured shelter pets, who without treatment could face euthanasia. Pets that benefit from Abby Fund donations are both young and old companion pets. Without treatment many are in pain or viewed as unadoptable because of the cost associated with treatment. The other half of the Petco Foundation’s investment will support the Humane Society’s major fundraising events, held throughout the year. These events are critical to raising money, support and awareness as HSFN cares for 2,000 pets annually.

HSFN has served the pets and people of Southern NH and northern Massachusetts for over 115 years by providing for and protecting abandoned, stray and owner released pets by connecting them with new families. In addition to caring for the shelter pets, HSFN cares another 1,000+ owned pets via its low cost vaccine and spay/neuter clinics open to community.

“We’re grateful for the investment the Petco Foundation has made in us and the work we do to save lives,” said Douglas A. Barry, President/CEO of the Humane Society. “With 2,000 pets through our doors annually, our Abby Fund is quickly depleted. Grant support and fundraising is vital to our availability to help every animal and give them a chance for a happy and healthy life.”

About the Petco Foundation

At the Petco Foundation, we believe that every animal deserves to live its best life. Since 1999, we’ve invested more than $167 million in lifesaving animal welfare work to make that happen. With our more than 4,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference by investing in adoption and medical care programs, spay and neuter services, pet cancer research, service and therapy animals, and numerous other lifesaving initiatives. Through our Think Adoption First program, we partner with Petco stores and animal welfare organizations across the country to increase pet adoptions. So far, we’ve helped more than 5 million pets find their new loving families, and we’re just getting started. Visit petcofoundation.org to learn more about how you can get involved.
