We connected with our friends at Pets Choice NH to learn what pet toys are the best for keeping our pets entertained. Pets Choice calls these toys “Boredom Busters” and they are fantastic! Below are some of our favorite options:

Kong Toys offer an endless array of choices, from the traditional “snowman” shaped treat holder to creative new interactive dispensers, you’re bound to find just the right one. Toys can be stuffed with kibble, treats, plain low-fat yogurt, peanut butter or any combination. For an extra long lasting treat, freeze it!! Prices range from $5.99 to $19.99.

LickiMats are a great way to keep cats and dogs entertained and the licking motion is a great soother for most. Just spread peanut butter, yogurt or unsweetened applesauce on the mat and watch your pet lick it up! You can also use liquids like, goats milk, kefir or bone broth and freeze it! If your dog is anxious or has joint issues, try the new Super Snouts Chill-Out Hemp Peanut Butter or their Hemp+Joint formula. Now that’s a treat with benefits! Mats range from $6.99 to $15.99.

Snuffle Mats encourage foraging skills which will keep your pets’ brain sharp and also burn a ton of calories in the process! Just spread your pets’ food on the mat and let them use their nose to find it. The mat is machine washable and can go in the drier. Cost $39.99

Puzzles and Mind Games burn a ton of calories and keep your pets’ brain sharp. Make your pet work for his dinner! Put half in his bowl as usual and feed the other half in a puzzle. Throw in some treats for extra motivation.  Puzzles have different difficulty levels and range in price from $14.99 to $26.99.

Cat Boredom Busters

Hiding, staking and catching are natural cat behavior. Providing your kitty with tunnels, scratchers, feathers and teasers are a great way to keep them busy and active. Catnip can be used as a reward or training aid and activates kitty’s “happy” receptors. It can be found in various toys or you can sprinkle it on cat scratchers to encourage kitty to use them instead of your couch!

Dishes, bowls and even balls can help your cat “hunt” for his food.

Messy Cats interactive feeders encourage your cat to use his paws to “catch” his food. Working for his food, keeps kitty’s brain sharp and burns a ton of calories! Prices range from $6.99 to $24.99
