Pet Adoptions

Animals come to us under many circumstances; allergies, moving, incompatibility with another pet, stray, owner illness; every situation you can imagine. All animals must demonstrate a temperament that will make them welcome in our community and well suited to a new home. All dogs are tested for heartworm and cats are tested for feline leukemia and AIDs. All adopted pets must be spayed or neutered within 30 days (if not already spayed/neutered).

Our pets do not have a time limit in which to be adopted; we provide food, warmth, comfort, and some training until another home can be found. Potential adopters complete an Adoption Application and talk with a trained adoption counselor about the animal's history and how it matches their lifestyle.

Adoption Process

You are probably wondering "How do I decide which pet is right for my family?" To help you find the best match, we'll ask you to complete an Adoption Application. Then you'll meet with a trained adoption counselor who will talk with you about your expectations for a new pet. Each family has a different idea about the ideal pet for their home; our job is to match a pet to your lifestyle. We will provide as much background information as we have available for the animal you are interested in. If you and the pet seem to be a potential match, we will ask the family to interact with the pet.

If you are interested in adopting a dog, we ask that all family members and any current family dogs meet our dog before completing an adoption. Your counselor will also answer your questions regarding spaying/neutering, feeding, training, expected activity levels, and much more.

When a match is found, you will sign an Adoption Contract, agree to spay/neuter the pet (if not already done), pay an adoption fee, and possibly a training deposit (for some dogs). All adoption fees are nonrefundable, but the training deposit is refundable upon proof of training.

Since pet adoption is such a personal decision, we will not adopt pets for third parties, such as gifts or surprises. Please inquire about our gift certificates so that you and the recipient can make this choice of a lifetime companion together!
